I have a website but it seems I need an ABN and a registered business name to buy wholesale and list my business in local directories.
Is this going to be costly?

You can apply for an ABN online via the ATO website
http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/content.asp?doc=/content/15772.htm
Or go straight here

To register your business and your business name, you need to apply to the Consumer Affairs or whatever it’s called in your state. I did mine over the counter in Adelaide with the Office of Business and Consumer Affairs (as it’s called in SA) and t cost $130. I guess that changes between states too.
If you turn over, or think you’re going to turn over more than $75,000 per year, you also need to register for GST.
Hope that’s helped. Good luck with it!
