  • What happens to stores when they buy video games at wholesale price but then msrp is lowered?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under wholesale stores | 4 Comments »

For example if a store buys a certain video game at $50 and msrp is $60 what happens when msrp is cut to below $50? Does the store get refunded the difference or do they just have to eat their losses?

I suggest you to buy directly from the manufacturers or wholesale suppliers if you are looking to buy in bulk. It will save your money and time. You can find the list of suppliers and manufacturers with contact details from a good B2B website like

    http://www.digitivity.com (Electronics and Electrical)

You can send free inquiry to any supplier from these B2B websites.

Wholesale and MSRP are completely different. Wholesale on a game could be $30 but MSRP is $60.

the msrp is usually higher than the actual make price.

for example that video game could have cost 20 or less dollars to make, yet they recommend you sell it for 60, but the reseller still makes money by selling it for 50.

MSRP = Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. Therefore, when a store buys a game at $50, the manufacturer is suggesting and recommending that the store owner sell it to us at $60. Keep in mind that is the ‘suggested’ price. The merchant can sell it for more or less. That is his/her decision. That’s why stuff goes on sale at reduced prices when things are outdated or might not sale at the merchant’s price.

Does the store get refunded the difference? No
If they lower the price to the MSRP, they will break even; if they lower the price below what they paid, they eat their losses. But wait – they might make it up on something else by selling it higher than the MSRP. That is why you see the same item at different stores at different prices. It depends on how much the merchant wants to mark it up or mark it down.
